Good morning to everyone who's getting on and good afternoon or wherever you are in the world. And as I said this month, we were talking about this three simple ways to honor God with your upper cervical practice, how to serve your community, impact more people, love your work.

We're going to start right at the top of the hour here on this month's webinar, three simple ways to honor God with your upper cervical practice. All right. Good morning. Welcome to our UCM Practice Growth Systems webinar of the month, three simple ways to honor God with your upper cervical practice, how to serve your community, impact more people and love your work.
I'm Dr. Bill Davis with UCM Practice Growth Systems. And before I start today's webinar, I'm going to pray. And Lord, thank you so much for this opportunity to share with these doctors. And I pray, Lord, that you would be honored in this webinar today as we continue to seek to glorify you in all we do, including our businesses in Jesus' name.
Amen. All right. So, let me get right into what we're going to be focusing on today. And, you know, as I was getting ready for this webinar and I was praying through what I wanted to share with you, this verse came to my mind of, you know, beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you'll have no reward from your Father in heaven.
So, you know, I want to tread lightly today. You know, I want to make sure that everything I share with you is coming from a place of boasting in the Lord and not boasting in myself or boasting in what I'm about, but because all I am is...
a result of what God has done in me and through me. And so, as I go through this information today, I pray that you would see that I'm not boasting in myself, I'm boasting in the Lord, I'm boasting in what He is doing.
And I encourage you to do the same thing in your practice, give all praise, honor and glory to God in your business on a daily basis. And so, as a steward of what He has given you. And so, as I look at what God has done in me and through me, it started with, as far as upper cervical is concerned in my own practice, I built a successful all -cash practice by the grace of God before breaking my neck mountain biking in 2011.
And after that time, a couple of years later, I founded UCM to help doctors grow their practices. And that's what we've been doing ever since, is helping doctors grow and help more people in their communities.
So, what we've done, why we are knowledgeable when it comes to practice growth is we've been doing it for so long, 11 plus years working with over 300 upper cervical doctors, growing their practices, doubling their practices, working with them to build million dollar practices at associates, at locations, open practices profitably, adding additional team members, improving efficiency and effectiveness.
This is just what we do every day. And the other things that we've done, of course, is helping doctors just with content, with information. Our podcast now has over 200 episodes, interviewed most of the top upper cervical doctors in the world on that podcast and wrote two books, two editions of the Upper Cervical Practice Mastery Book.
And so, these are some of the reasons why I have knowledge when it comes to... upper cervical practice in general, but more importantly, who I, who I really am is, I'm just, I'm a follower of Christ who's been radically transformed by Jesus.
You know, I believe that Jesus is the Lamb of God who came to earth to take away the sins of the world, that He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. And as a disciple of Christ, my ultimate purpose is to make disciples and bring glory to God in every area of my life.
And that includes with this business where I get to serve upper cervical doctors. And so, you know, for me, you know, my, my story begins with, uh, me being a kid who grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, and just was completely lost and was in darkness.
Never knew a Christian until I was 19 years old when I met my, my future wife. And it was through, through her that the Lord eventually led me to Him September 13th, 2001, two days after 9 -11. I went to a church service.
It was a high school service with my wife and some family of hers, and I wasn't in high school, but I was in my mid -twenties, but I went to this service and ended up getting saved at that service, and the Lord began to radically change my life and replace everything that was in darkness and lost in me with using me for His glory.
That was really the beginning of my life in many ways as I was born again, made new in Christ. He taught me so many things through those next few years and really those first few years of practice and teaching me to trust Him, teaching me to then I had a very significant trial come upon us in November 26, 2011.
I was mountain biking with some friends. I was going down a very large hill, flipped over, broke my neck. I was paralyzed, C7 spinal cord injury, and was in the hospital for three months. When I got out, my practice basically was gone.
Eventually, it had to be closed, so it was a time of really looking and seeing, God, what are you doing? How are you going to use this to continue to accomplish this mission that I believe that He had given me, which was to bring hope and healing to sick and suffering people for the glory of God, which is what I was doing in my community in Southern California and in San Diego area.
But in 2013, He began to show me that I could do this mission, I could continue this mission through other doctors' offices and through other communities and that's what we've been doing. I mean, over 100 ,000 new patients have come into practices as a result of our efforts, but more importantly than just the...
new patients, just the doctors' lives that have been able to be changed and radically improved by what we are doing for them, the services, the resources, the things that we offer to doctors. And so it's been a really awesome thing to see how God has continued to use me to work through our mission.
And so as I mentioned, our mission is to bring hope and healing to sick and suffering people for the glory of God. And we love working with all of our cervical doctors. We have many, many clients who, you know, that do our following Christ.
And then we have many that aren't. And, you know, so when we partner with doctors and that first portion of our mission, bring hope and healing to sick and suffering people, that's universal. Everybody wants to do that who's in practice.
But the last portion of that mission is really the most important thing to me. And it's, you know, obviously not everyone has that focus. And so what I've been Really, wrestling through is how to more effectively connect with brothers and sisters in Christ who have the same full mission that we have.
And as this verse says in Galatians 6 .10, so then as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, especially those who are of the household and the faith. And so that's, you know, that is our heart is to work with as many brothers and sisters in Christ who are upper cervical chiropractors.
Our desire is to partner with upper cervical chiropractors who are Christians. So we can expand the kingdom of God. It's a bigger purpose than just bringing hope and healing to sick and suffering people.
It's to accomplish our full mission for the glory of God. And so, you know, that's why I'm doing this webinar. I've done, you know, other webinars like this to really encourage you if you are in practice, if you are someone who is seeking to glorify God with your practice.
And I assume that's why you're here. You know, I want to encourage you to keep going and to equip you with some things today that will help you to more effectively lead your practice in a way that honors God.
And so that's really what we're going to get into today. And so, you know, here's some of the basics of what we're going to cover is how to trust in the Lord, not lean on your own understanding your practice, where to seek wisdom to grow your practice, help more people in your community, how to be bold and using your spiritual gifts to advance the kingdom of God, how to consistently reach out to your community so you can help more people find hope and healing,
where to find an abundance of Godly counselors to support you through the different stages of practice growth, how to use Jesus' disciple -making principles to build and grow your team, how to consistently demonstrate generosity to your team, patients, and community so God gets the glory, and what you need to do to set your practice apart from other businesses in your community, and a variety of other things as well.
So let's get into some basics as an introduction before we get into the three main keys that we're going to focus on today. And really, it starts with you. You know, we talk about this in the book a lot.We talk about this all the time is as the doctor goes, so goes the practice and that especially goes for you. If you want to honor God with your practice, you
want to be a steward of what he's given you is you have to follow him as a disciple.
A disciple is someone who is following Jesus. They're being changed by Jesus and they're committed to the mission of Jesus to make disciples everywhere. And I use the word disciple very specifically because in the New Testament, the word Christians only use three times and the word disciple is used 270 times.
And so when we think about ourselves as someone who is following Christ, a disciple is the best way to think about that because a disciple is someone who is focused on building the kingdom of God and not just building their own kingdom.
And so seeking first the kingdom of God, as Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount. but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you as well. So when we are pursuing God and pursuing His glory and His honor, then we can trust that He'll provide the other things that we need in this life as we seek to honor Him with what He's given us.
And, you know, He calls us as disciples to be very passionately committed to Him. Luke 14, 26, He says, if anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
That is pretty powerful stuff. What He's calling you there is to love Him with a love that looks like hate to the rest of the world, to fully and completely honor Him with your life, and to really be committed, passionately committed to Him and His kingdom.
And so part of this also is just being radically different than the world. And to be great in the kingdom of God, Jesus says, if anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all. And so, you know, rather than puffing yourself up, rather than boasting in yourself, He's encouraging us to be a servant of others, to honor people by actually serving them, rather than by having everyone else look up to us and boast in us.
As He says in Matthew 23, 11, the greatest among you shall be your servant. And so seeking to serve is a huge part of honoring God. And it starts with dying to yourself, right? As He says, if anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily and follow me, for whoever would save his life will lose it.
Whatever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what is the profit of man who begins the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? So seeking after the things of this world can get us lost. But if when we give our life away to others when we focus on how we can serve and bless others, then we truly save our life.
As John Piper said in the great book, Don't Waste Your Life, he says, by gladly pursuing the gladness of others in God, even at the cost of our lives, we love them and honor God. This is the opposite of a wasted life.
So when you give your life away to others through service, as in upper cervical practice, when you have a great opportunity to do that on a daily basis, but in every area of your life, as a spouse, as a parent, as a friend, as a member of your family, as a member of your community, when you consistently are giving your life away to others, it is the greatest life you could live.
And as he says, one of the temptations in all of life and definitely in business is to serve money, right, is to chase after money and stick to to have that be your primary source of living and your primary goal every day.
And Jesus is very clear on this. He says, no one can serve two masters for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he'd be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
And so every day we have to orient our minds and our focuses to serve God rather than money. And it's extremely difficult, especially when we're, when we're goal oriented business people, when we think about, okay, how can we more effectively impact the, the community?
And, but it's, it's all about the heart. It's all about the why behind it. Keeping that why, that focus, that mission paramount in your life so that you don't get caught up in just chasing after money.
Because the thing is when we seek to serve others and we serve because he served us, when he, when we serve our team, we serve our patients, we serve our community. And when we serve to give, because he gave everything to you, you know, when you strive to give more than 10% to your local church, your, you know, Para Church ministries, individuals, missionaries, et cetera, when, when you're a generous person,
it's the, one of the best ways that you can, you can put to death greed within you and not serve money on a daily basis. And so seeking to give your life away, seeking to serve, seeking to give, be a generous person.
Those are ways that you can live out not serving money with your life. And as, as Jesus tells us, when faithfulness is rewarded by God, he said to him, well done, good servant, because you have been faithful and very little, you shall have authority over 10 cities.
And so when we're faithful in whatever he gives us, then he will give us more very frequently is, is what he does. And as, as Proverbs 2820 says, a faithful man will abound with blessings. But whoever hastens to be rich will not go unpunished, right?
So chasing after money is an emptiness. I mean, the whole book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon talks about that over and over and over. It's chasing after the wind. And so instead, focus on being faithful with what you have in the day, in the moment, and faithfulness will be rewarded.
And then another huge part of this is just making sure that we're keeping the main thing, the main thing, which is Jesus gave us very clear instructions. No matter what you do in your life, whatever your vocation is, ultimately what you are is a disciple maker, right?
Jesus came and said to them, all authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to deserve all that I've commanded you.
And behold, I'm with you always to the end of the age, right? So no matter what you're doing on a daily basis, Keeping the focus on being a disciple maker is a huge part of making sure that you're really seeking to build the kingdom of God, not your own kingdom.
And so, you know, there's many opportunities to make disciples in your practice with your team, with your patients, with your community, with younger doctors who you may have opportunities to mentor.
These are great opportunities to make an impact for the kingdom of God by being a disciple maker. And so now, as I get through that introduction, I'm going to get now into the three simple ways to honor God with your upper cervical practice as a disciple of Christ.
And these are focused around three things. Leading with prayer, leading by the word, and leading with wise counsel. So let's get into each of these. So number one is lead with prayer. As Paul said in 1 Timothy, he says, have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths.
Rather, train yourself for godliness. For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. One of the best ways that you can train yourself for godliness is by spending time in prayer.
You know, we all know the great benefits of physical exercise and we talk about those with our patients and we hopefully apply those in our own lives. But what Paul's saying here is that your godliness training, your training and godliness is so much more important.
And that time of prayer is absolutely crucial to honor God with your practice because if you're not praying and relying on him, then you're going to be relying on yourself. And so one of the best ways you can consistently honor God with your practice is by prayer, praying to him on an ongoing basis so that you are dependent on Him for wisdom, for discernment, for strength, for power, for all that you need to be successful with your practice.
And as Psalm 16, 7 says, I bless the Lord who gives me counsel, right? The Lord will give you counsel. When you seek Him in prayer, He will counsel you. He will give you understanding in order to honor Him with what you've been given.
And so pray. You know, pray with your team, pray with patience when God presents the opportunity. As James says, you do not have because you do not ask, right? And if you ask, you do not receive because you ask wrongly to spend it on your passion.
So when you, you know, make sure when you're praying, that you're praying with the right heart behind it, but pray, pray, pray, pray. And that's a key part of honoring God with your practice. And leading your practice through prayer really starts with your habits.
You know, what are you doing in the morning? What I would, you know, what I encourage in the book that we read, that we wrote, and I used to do this in my own practices, get to the practice for anyone else.
Make sure you're the first one there and walk through the practice, walk through each room and just pray. Pray for the Lord to work in you, work through you, work through your team. Pray for specific patients and their results and issues in their lives.
Pray for your team members, pray for wisdom, pray for the spiritual gift of healing and miracles. These are a way that you can set the tone for your practice to be a place of prayer and be a place where God's power is shown on a daily basis.
And then pray with your team. You know, it doesn't matter if all your team members are Christians or not, you know, you can just, what I talk about is that, listen, just, you know, I'm going to pray and, you know, just I'm going to pray, right?
So in your morning huddle, pray and pray that the Lord would be with you to accomplish your mission that day, right? Pray for specific team members' needs, pray for specific patients' needs, and then praise God for results throughout the day, right?
Make sure you're pointing to Him when people say, wow, Doc, I'm getting incredible results. I'm seeing this change in my life. That changed my life. Respond with, praise God, you know, that's awesome.
I'm so excited for you, right? Give glory to God for those opportunities. And then thank God for what He did that day during your end of day huddle, right? Those are two key meetings that you could have within your day, a morning huddle, end of day huddle.
And those could be times, again, that you can look forward to the day and look back on the day with gratitude. And then also, you know, take opportunities to pray with patients. When God presents opportunities, be ready to pray with your patients.
You may have opportunities to lead them to Christ. You may have opportunities to pray for their healing. Pray for issues that they're going through be ready to rejoice with them and weep with them This is part of what we do as followers of Christ and that definitely extends into your practice So the first simple way To honor God with your upper cervical practice is to lead with prayer Have your practice be a place of prayer and as you do that and as you depend on him through prayer That will be honoring God with your practice The second way is to lead by the word and this is a big one This is huge and all of these are important but this is a lot a lot of stuff here that we've got to make sure we understand when it comes to the Word of God as Paul says in 2 Timothy,
he says, all Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training and righteousness. The man of God may be a competent, equipped for every good work, right?
So you're doing good work within your practices. You're making changes in people's lives. You're saving lives. You're making an impact in your community. And so Scripture has wisdom for you, has discernment for you, has, it has what you need in order to be effective within your practice.
But you've got to get in it. You've got to be in the Word. And then you can begin to apply what you're learning. And so engaging with the Word of God is, you know, exposing yourself to the Word in a lot of different ways in order to really have that deep understanding and application.
Hearing the Word is the, you know, the most surface -level way of engaging with the Word of God. And that's, you know, if you go to church, you're probably hearing the Word of God, hopefully, and in the church that you're, you're in.
But from there, getting into the Word with reading it, studying it, and then going deeper with memorizing and meditating on the Word of God, this is how you really begin to have that deep understanding, that, and then you can really start to apply what you're learning in every area of your life, because there is so much wisdom in the Word for your daily life, including your upper cervical practice.
And so as Jesus said, if you abide in my Word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. And so having the Word of God be an important part of every day of your life, have it be part of your habits, have it be part of your morning, be part of the day as you go about it, thinking about verses, memorize, you know, the verses that you memorize and meditating on those,
when those are at the, on the tip of your tongue and in your mind, it changes the way that you practice. And the word will lead you in discipling your team, right? Using Jesus' discipling principles to develop your team.
Well, the only way that you can know those principles is if you read the word of God. And especially if you read it with a discipling mindset of like how, so what is Jesus doing? How is he leading people?
How is he discipling his, the people that are following him? What is he doing on a daily basis? And you can take those principles and begin to apply them into your practice. And a big part of it too is being an example, right?
For your team. Follow me as I follow Christ, Paul said, right? And also helping more people together, focusing on the big why. That's what you're about. And the more that you can point your team to the why of why you exist, that what your mission is in that community, the more you can help them to see why it's so important.
The other thing is, As you read the Word of God, you'll see that the main point of the Word of God is love, right? Jesus said, they will know you by your love. So you don't want to assume your team knows how to love people well.
You want to teach them how you want people to be treated. As Jesus said in Luke 6 .31, as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. So you have to teach people to love people well, and that goes with training them on an ongoing basis, doing role -playing, connecting with them, helping them understand the principles of different conversations and how you want to make sure that those are communicated to patients so that patients feel well taken care of and feel loved in the practice.
And the other thing, as I mentioned, is being an example to your team. Servant leadership is the only true leadership, right? If you are not serving your team, if you don't have that servant's heart, then you're not truly leading them as you should.
It's important to demonstrate that, what a servant looks like within your practice, right? Don't, you know, be ready to jump in and serve, serve your team, serve your patients, be the servant of all, set that example, and they will follow it.
And being confident to say, follow me as I follow Christ. And then focusing on helping more people together. That's what it should be all about, right? You know, money is nothing more than certificates of appreciation when people give you money for what they find valuable.
But it's helping people. That's what your real focus is, right? Bringing hope and healing to sick and suffering people for the glory of God. When you rally your team behind that, how can we help more people in this community?
How can we serve more people? That's the focus. That's what the big why is. And when you keep them, keep their focus there and your focus there, that is what a passionate, an honorable way of serving God with your practice.
And it starts, you know, also just making sure that you're not conforming to this world, but being transformed by the renewal of your mind. And so getting into the Word of God in both the Old and the New Testament, there's so many great books of the Bible, obviously, but here's just some of the ones that are going to provide you with some great wisdom for leading a business.
The Gospels, as I said, just paying attention specifically to how Jesus leads people is a great, great benefit to you. James is another one, wonderful wisdom in the book of James. Nehemiah, a great leader in the Old Testament.
You can learn a lot from him. And then the Proverbs, just tons in the Proverbs that you can learn and apply in your practice. And what I would encourage you to do is read a chapter of Proverbs every day.
There's 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs, and there's 31 days in the month, and you just, you know, on day one, you read chapter one. On day two, you read chapter two, and so forth. And when you do that consistently, and you put the Word of God in your mind, the Proverbs like that into your mind, you'll grow in wisdom.
You'll grow in understanding, especially as you apply what you're learning. And then some other things you can be doing is just, you know, to set your practice apart. This is, you know, because you want to be a city on a hill.
You want to be something that's different and unique in your community. And so, you know, don't be afraid to play Christian music in your practice, right? And you know, make sure you're understanding and using your spiritual gifts, right?
If you don't know your spiritual gifts, there's a lot of ways that you can investigate that and try to understand them. But the Lord has given you gifts. And so, the better you understand those gifts and can use those in your practice, the more He can really be glorified through you as you rely on Him and the gifts that He's given you.
And another thing is making sure that you know how to articulate the gospel, right? As much as it's fantastic that we get the opportunity to help people with their physical ailments and things that are going on with them.
But ultimately, it's their eternal where they are going that matters most, right? And making sure that they have a relationship with God. And so, being able to articulate the gospel and being ready to share it with patients or team members as the Lord gives you opportunities, it's an absolute must when it comes to honoring God with your practice.
And so, I'm going to give you a real simple way to share the gospel. You may have heard this before, you may not have. I'm going to give it to you in a visual format because I'm here on this webinar with you.
But you can certainly take this and just draw it out. You can explain it to someone. It's just a simple way. way of articulating the gospel so that someone can understand it. And so it really starts with, you know, man and God having a relationship.
God designed us to have a relationship with him, but sin is, has interrupted that relationship. It's destroyed that relationship because man sinned against God by one, Romans five 12 by one man sin entered the world and death by sin.
And so death passed to all men for all sin. And so the idea here is then once center entered the world, there was a separation between man and God. And Romans six 23 says the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.
And so this, this, this separation exists between man and God. And as, it's appointed on the man wants to die. And after that, the judgment. So there's, there's a problem. The separation is there. How can man be right with God?
How do we bridge the gap between us and God because God is perfect. He is, as Habakkuk 1 .14 says, God has a purer eyes than to look on sin. And because his one rule of his kingdom is to be perfect in order to enter, that's a problem, because none of us are perfect.
And so what we try to do is, through in this life, we try to reach our way to God through works, through, you know, man decides going to take manners into his own hands. He's going to make himself right with God, through works, through religion, through money, through morality.
But none of that is able to bring you to God. You can never work hard enough or work good enough to get there. And so all of that breaks down, and you're not able to get to God, because as Isaiah 64 says, all of us have become like one who is unclean and all are righteous, actually like filthy brags.
So in the mind of God, you know, because we're not perfect, it's not good enough. You can't earn your way to heaven. And so what has to happen is Jesus came as the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the world, and he made a bridge through the cross, because for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believed in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
And as many as received him, to them he gave the power to become sons of God, even to them that believe in his name, John 112. And so when you believe in Christ, you see him as the perfect sacrifice.
The Lamb of God came to take away the sins of the world, and he stands in your place. He is your bridge. You go from death to life, and you're able to enter into the kingdom of God now and in the future.
Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. And John 112, as many as received him, to them he gave power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe in his name.
And so that's... The key is the restored relationship with man and God is through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and that is the gospel. And that leads to a surrendered life that of following him walking by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
And as he says, the main way that people will know the fruit of your life is a changed life that is rooted and grounded in love. And that's how you know if you're a disciple of Christ, if you're growing in love.
And so the second simple way to honor God with your practice is to lead by the word, right? To know the word, to apply the word, and to lead by it in your practice and in your life. The third way is to lead with wise counsel.
Proverbs 2013 says, whoever walks with the wise becomes wise. The companion fools will suffer harm. And so seeking wise counsel is so important. As Proverbs 2018 says, plans are established by counsel by wise guidance wage war.
And Proverbs 15 .22, without counsel, plans fail. But with many advisors, they succeed. And in abundance of counselors, there is victory. Proverbs 24 .6. And where there is no guidance, a people falls.
But in abundance of counselors, there is safety. So there's a variety of promises related to an abundance of counselors. But these counselors must be wise and godly. So you want to find an abundance of wise and godly counselors to help you with your practice and help you with your life as well.
And so where can you find wise counsel? Well, there's lots of places to find counsel. But every counsel that you receive, you want to make sure that it's consistent with the word of God. And so you can find counsel in books and podcasts and from other upper cervical specialists, from other business owners, from pastors, from wise friends.
But everything that you receive, you want to bring it through the filter of whether or not it's consistent with the word of God. So you can get lots and lots of abundant counsel. But is it wise and godly and consistent with the word?
And so what about getting help from a counselor, advisor, or guide for your upper cervical practice specifically? That is what I do in my business. And I always have in every business that I've ever had is I've always had a business guide, someone that can guide me.
