Hello, everyone, and welcome to the webinar for today. I'm Dr. Bill Davis with UCM Practice Growth Systems, and I am excited to be with you once again. Today, we're going to be talking about Set Apart to Serve, Romans XII Leadership in Upper Cervical Chiropractic, Embracing Kingdom Leadership Principles to Build a Practice that Reflects Christ.
Welcome everyone who is joining us on the live webinar, and also those of you who are watching this replay. I'm excited to present this information to you. Before we start today, I'm going to pray, and we'll get right into the material we have for you today. Lord, thank you so much for this opportunity to share, and I pray that you'd be with me.
Help me, Lord God, to speak your truth to those that are watching. In Jesus' name, amen. All right, so getting right into this, and just some questions for you. Do you have a desire to lead your practice like Christ? Do you want to glorify God with your practice? Do you want to use your practice to expand the kingdom of God?
These are questions... that you may be wrestling with, or you may be clear on that you definitely want to, you know, an answer to all these questions is yes. And so if it is your desire to lead your practice like Christ, to glorify him with your practice, and you want to use your practice to expand the kingdom of God, that's really what we're going to be talking about today.
And so the The goal really is to strive to steward well.
Tony and I are both pastors in our local churches, and as we have been blessed to serve in those capacities, we love to serve people in our local churches, but we also love to serve people through worship. this business and you know when I had my my practice of when I ran my practice and our current consulting marketing agency I've done this as best I possibly can by biblical principles and that's really what the goal is is to run your practice through by biblical principles if you are a disciple of christ and so you know with with Without a doubt, what you really want to do is not boast in yourself, but to boast in the Lord.
As second Corinthians ten seventeen says, let the one who boasts boast in the Lord. And so everything that the Lord has given you, you want to steward well, you want to manage it well for his glory. And that includes your upper cervical practice. And so a little bit about me. If you don't know me, I'm you You know, Dr.
Bill Davis, I'm a follower of Christ and I've been radically transformed by Jesus. I believe Jesus is the lamb of God who came to take to the earth to take away the sins of the world. I believe that Jesus is the way, the truth, the life, and no one comes to the father except through him. John fourteen six.
And as a disciple of Christ, my ultimate purpose is to make disciples and to bring glory of God in every area of my life. And so. You know, my testimony is such that, you know, I grew up without God, didn't know him. I never met anyone who was even a professing Christian until I was nineteen years old when I met my now wife.
And, you know, he led me to him through a terrible tragedy, which was nine eleven. And, you know, two days after nine eleven, September thirteenth, two thousand and one. I came to know the Lord. And through a church service I was in, a youth service, even though I was in my mid-twenties, I happened to be there with some friends and I gave my life to the Lord at that time.
And he began to change me and mold me and make me more like him and help me to trust him. And then that really got tested in two thousand eleven, about ten years later, when I broke my neck mountain biking. I was practicing upper circle chiropractor at the time. broke my neck, was paralyzed and lost my practice because I was unable to practice. I'm still paralyzed today.
I have a C-seven spinal cord injury. And so during that time, really, he taught me more about trusting him, trusting him through difficult seasons of life to persevere and to embrace suffering in the sense of have joy in suffering, even in the midst of not understanding it completely, but knowing that he is good and that he is trustworthy. And that's what I've been trying to do all these years.
For the past twelve years, I've been blessed to be helping upper cervical doctors with their practices, help them to grow their practices. And our mission at UCM is to bring hope and healing to sick and suffering people for the glory of God.
And this was actually my mission in my practice as well, is that sick and suffering people are out there in In every community in the world, they're out there and they need hope and they need healing. And upper cervical chiropractic is an incredible vehicle for producing hope and healing in people.
And so we've been partnering with doctors now for, like I said, the past twelve years to help them to grow their practices and help more people in their communities. And so, you know, part of what really I've have been blessed to do is I've been able to work with a lot of doctors over the years who have a similar type mission to what I have and who also want to glorify God in their practice.
And Tony and I and the rest of our team have been able to partner with these brothers and sisters in Christ who have a similar heart to help people in their communities and for a similar reason. And I really love this verse from Galatians six, ten that says, so then as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
And that's what we really try to do through UCM is to do good to everyone, right? So whether you're following Christ or not, and you come to us and you want our help, you want us to help you grow your practice. Awesome. We want to help you. We want to help you help more people in your communities.
But as it says, especially to those who are of the household of faith, because in your circumstance, if you're a follower of Christ and you have a similar mission to us to bring glory to God, then if we unite with you and we help you to expand the kingdom of God, then we are truly accomplishing our full mission to bring glory to God as well.
And so that's why we generally want, our desire is to partner with everyone Christian upper cervical chiropractor in the world to expand the kingdom of God. We want to help every upper cervical practice, but especially those who have the same mission as us to bring glory to God. And so that's why we're doing this webinar today, is we want to help.
If you're in that situation where you do want to glorify God with your practice, we want to give you some tools to help you do that. And that's what today's webinar is all about.
And so before we get into the specifics of the Romans XII principles that we're going to talk about, just some baseline things I want to make sure that we go through first and one of them is key and that's, are you a disciple? You know, before we can talk about your practice, we have to talk about you as a disciple, because as you go, the practice will follow.
And really great definition of a disciple is a disciple is someone who is following Jesus, they're being changed by Jesus, and they're committed to the mission of Jesus to make disciples everywhere. And I like to use the term disciple more than Christian because that's what is used in the New Testament.
If you look at The New Testament, two hundred and seventy times the word disciple is used to describe a follower of Christ and only three times the word Christian is used. And so a disciple of Jesus, a follower is a more accurate description of what it means to be someone who is following Christ.
And really what a disciple is, is they're focused on building the kingdom of God and not building their own kingdoms. And that's a key piece and a key understanding to how you can glorify God with your practice. If you seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, all these things will be added to you, Matthew six, thirty three says.
And so that's what we want to seek is the kingdom of God. How can we most effectively glorify God, honor him with our lives, including our upper cervical practices? And, you know, the other part of it is, is when you are, when you call yourself a disciple of Christ, it means that you are passionately committed to Christ.
There's, you know, this, this powerful verse, Luke, Luke, Luke, Luke, Luke, Luke, Luke, Luke, Luke, Luke, Luke, Luke, important it is that Christ is above everything in our lives and that we love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. And so having that as the passion of our life, that intensity with which we follow Christ is a key part of being a disciple of Christ.
And it goes into this idea of greatness, right? All right, the world has a very different definition of greatness than the word of God does. And this was, you know, discussed many times with Jesus with his disciples and, or with the twelve apostles, right? That, for instance, in Mark nine, it says, but they kept silent for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest.
And he sat down and called the twelve and he said to them, if anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all. And so to be great in the kingdom of God means to be a servant of others. And that's part of what it means to be a great leader of an upper cervical practice is that you are seeking to be a servant of all.
You're seeking to serve your team, your patients, your community, and ultimately serving God through the work that you're doing. As Matthew twenty three eleven says, the greatest among you shall be your servant. And that's what you want to do is to die to yourself in the sense of, you know, not not not looking to your own desires, but also to the desires of others.
As it says in Luke nine, twenty three to twenty five. And he said to all, if anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it. But whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?
And so much of leading well within an upper cervical practice is dying to yourself, looking for ways that you can truly serve others.
And that will make all the difference because you cannot serve God and money, right? you can as as matthew says no one can serve two masters for either he will hate the one and love the other will be devoted to the one and despise the other you cannot serve god and money and so every day we have an opportunity to either seek to serve god in his kingdom or try to build our own kingdom and serve money and you know money in and of itself is not is not a bad thing or anything like that it's the love of money that is the root of all kinds of evil but when we when we make money a god or making an idol on our lives, that's when we can really lose focus on what's most important.
So instead, when we focus on serving others, serving because he has served us, when we serve our team, our patients, our community, when we serve to give because he's given everything to us, when we strive to give more than ten percent to our local church, when we're looking to be a blessing to others through our service, that's when we're emulating the character of Christ.
And also to know that faithfulness is rewarded by God. That's what he tells us in his word. He says, for instance, in Luke, he said to him, well done, good servant, because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.
And so no matter how big your practice is, how many people you're helping, if you're faithful in serving those people well, that we're going to talk more about in a minute, then you will be rewarded by God. He will bless that and he will give you more over time. And as it says in Proverbs, a faithful man will abound with blessings, but whoever hastens to be rich will not go unpunished.
And so again, if you're seeking to serve money and you're hastening to be rich, you're trying to get rich quick, then that will not be blessed by the Lord. But if you are diligent and faithful and consistent, and you consistently are investing in the people that he gives you, that he does bless. And then the other aspect of this is the focus on being a disciple maker, right?
That is our ultimate goal as followers of Christ is to be disciples who make disciples, right? As Jesus said in Matthew, twenty eight, eighteen through twenty, all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I've commanded you. And behold, I'm with you always to the end of the age. And so part of our practice should be focused on making disciples.
And so are you making disciples in your practice with your team, your patients, your community, younger doctors, right? Is this a focus of your life? Are you someone who is looking to expand the kingdom of God through your practice by making more disciples of Christ? That should be part of what you're doing each day.
So, Let's get into Romans chapter twelve and find out what we can learn from this specific chapter. It's so rich with wisdom and so key for leadership and for leading an upper cervical practice. And so the first thing that we look at here in Romans, In Romans chapter twelve is a couple of introductory pieces before we get into the seven specific characteristics is to embrace your divine calling.
In Romans twelve one, it says, present your You know, Romans twelve one says, I appeal to you, therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. So when you present your life and your practice as a living sacrifice, all of your life should are opportunities to worship.
And so. your practice can actually be a way of worshiping God. Worshiping God is not just singing, it's not just being in a church and being in a worship service, but your life, when you present your life as a living sacrifice, when you are giving to the Lord your daily work, then you can be worshiping God with your practice.
As it says in first Corinthians, so whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. And so that means that every time you sit down with a new patient and you're doing a consultation, you can be doing that to the glory of God. When you are doing an exam, you're doing that to the glory of God. When you're taking a film, you're doing that to the glory of God.
When you're doing an adjustment, You're doing that to the glory of God. When you're leading your team, you're sitting down and you're having a conversation with them, you're leading a meeting, whatever it may be, if you do it with excellence, if you seek to worship God through your work, then you're doing it for the glory of God.
And that's what you want to do when it comes to embracing that divine calling that you have. And then the second part of this is to reject worldly models, right? Romans twelve two says, do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
And so having this clarity of your mind focused on the kingdom of God means that you're not conformed to this world, but instead you're leading with clarity and kingdom vision. And this comes with knowing the word of God and having it be something that you are leading your life through, right?
When you are understanding the wisdom of God and you are applying that to your daily life, including your upper cervical practice, then you are rejecting the worldly models and you're focusing on how God wants to do things. And so that's what we're going to talk about now is these seven traits of a Christ-centered practice.
Seven traits of a Christ-centered practice from Romans And let's get into these. So the first trait that we see within Romans twelve that's going to help us with our upper cervical practices is that a practice that's focused on glorifying God should be cultivating humility. As it says in Romans, don't think of yourself more highly than you ought to think.
And so this is something that we have to consistently do on a daily basis. If the Lord has blessed us with the ability to help people, we can get puffed up with that.
If the Lord has blessed us and he, because of our faithfulness he has blessed us with income or an abundance of income or we have we have money in the bank and so forth we have these these types of things we can feel like we've done that and it's not a blessing from the lord so we can get puffed up with that But the key is leading with humility and not ego.
Humility strengthens teams and invites God's favor. As Andrew Murray said in his wonderful book, Humility, he says, I take pleasure in all that humbles me. And that's really what you want to do is you want to cultivate humility by consistently giving glory to God for what he has given to you.
And knowing that everything that you have is a gift from him and And that you are consistently looking not only to your own interests, but also the interests of others. And so when you're doing that, I mean, one of the blessings of upper cervical practice and specifically a lot of the upper cervical techniques is that they're difficult and they can humble you. That's a blessing.
It's a blessing that you get the opportunity to be humbled at times through the application of your technique and whatever it may be. And, you know, just owning a business in and of itself can be humbling, owning a practice, leading others, all these types of things.
And so looking to cultivate humility is a big part of what you can learn from Romans twelve about how to run your practice in a Christlike way. As Romans eighteen twelve says, before destruction, a man's heart is haughty. But humility comes before honor. And so that is what you want to seek is humility. Seek to be humble before God.
The second trait here that we see within Romans twelve is to use your spiritual gifts. Romans twelve, six through eight says different gifts, but the same body. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them.
So every single one of us have different gifts that we've been given by the Holy Spirit to be used for the betterment of others, to the blessing of others, especially to our brothers and sisters in Christ, but to all people. So being able to operate within your gifting is a big part of this and empowering your team to do the same.
Ideally, your team and you have different gifts so that you can use those gifts together to glorify God within your practice. And so you may have been given gifts such as administrative gifts or leadership gifts or teaching gifts or different types of gifts that you can use within your practice And you want to use those gifts, right? God's given you those gifts for a reason.
And in the same way, the other members of your practice, your other team members, you want them to use their gifts well as well. So helping you to understand each person's gifts is a big part of this. And then putting everyone in the places where they can use those gifts most effectively is the other part.
As first Peter four, ten says, as each has received a gift, use it to serve one another as God's as good stewards of God's buried grace. And that's it. When you when you use your gifts well, you're serving others. That's what they're for. And so that's what you want to look for is how can you use those gifts most effectively? The third trait is leads with love.
An upper cervical practice that is focused on glorifying God should be a place of love. It should be a place where love is genuine. As it says in Romans twelve, nine through ten, it says, let love be genuine, abhor what is evil, hold fast to what is good, love one another with brotherly affection, outdo one another in showing honor.
So when you have genuine love for people, when you love your team, you love your patients, you love your community, people will see that and they will recognize who you are and why you're doing it. When you put that out there as a consistent way that your practice is, that it's a loving place, people come in there, they can feel it, they can feel the difference.
When you have that as an emphasis with your team so that your team is loving on people, that's a it's a difference maker it makes a difference within your community and so with genuine love for people not just you know pretending to like people but actually loving people genuinely makes a huge difference and then loving one another with brotherly affection right having when you have that blessing of brothers and sisters in christ coming into your practice either from your church or from a community whatever it is and being able to love them and love them well is another blessing And then outdo one another in showing honor, as it says.
How can you honor the people that come into your practice? How can you give them dignity and show them how much of a blessing they are and how you are here to help them and serve them? That they're in the right place. When you consistently can show people that, it glorifies God with your practice. And so as it says in John chapter A new commandment I give to you that you love one another.
Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this, all people will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another." So they'll know us by our love. And so as a disciple of Christ, someone who is following Christ, you should be someone who is loving others, and that should be a consistent part of what your practice is all about.
The fourth trait that we learn from Romans twelve is overcoming evil with good. Romans twelve, seventeen through twenty one says, Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
So when you have a difficult patient or a difficult team member or whatever it may be, responding to them with grace is what you want to do in order to honor God. Handling conflict in a Christ-honoring way will protect your witness and will help you to to consistently demonstrate that you're different, that your practice is different, that you treat people the way you want to be treated.
You are caring for people in a unique way. And that's why... It says in First Thessalonians five, nineteen through twenty two, do not quench the spirit, do not despise prophecies, but test everything, hold fast what is good, abstain from every form of evil. Right.
So you don't want to be your practice doesn't need to be a shouldn't be a place where evil is promoted, but instead where. you're promoting good and your reactions to people are grace-filled, your reactions to people are filled with love, and that sets you apart as a practice. The fifth trait here is that your practice is fueled with kingdom purpose.
Romans, verse twelve, eleven says, do not be slothful in zeal, but be fervent in the spirit, serve the Lord.
When you keep that spiritual fervor and you serve the Lord, you avoid burnout through renewal because you're staying connected to your purpose and that's the thing is you know when you have that clear purpose that clear mission that you have as a practice and everything goes back to that mission when you wake up each day you go into your practice you know that hey this is what I'm here to do today you have that kingdom purpose it will keep you going through difficult times, through difficult seasons, difficult things that are gonna happen.
Things are gonna happen. This is a fallen world. There's gonna be things that are gonna happen to you and your practice. And so, but if you're consistently focused on that mission, that kingdom purpose that God has given you for your practice, then that will allow you to be continued, to be fervent and to not be slothful, but to really seek to serve the Lord each day through your practice.
As Joshua twenty four fifteen says, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. And so if your purpose is to serve the Lord, is to glorify him, then that will keep you going regardless of what comes. The sixth trait is that you are blessed to be a blessing. Romans twelve thirteen says contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
When you practice hospitality and generosity, you bless your community. And you want to do that through as many different ways as you can think of, right? So through outreach to others, through tangible acts of love, through blessing different organizations within the community.
If you do, say, a food drive or something like that, and you are able to bring a bunch of food to a local food bank or a local food ministry or something like that, If you're able to, you know, you have a certain amount of money you're going to give to this organization this month or to this organization this month, whatever it is, you are ultimately blessed to be a blessing to others.
And so when you invest your time, your talents and your treasure into others, you're storing up treasure in heaven. And that will make an internal difference in your life and the life of others. And so when your practice is focused on that, that you are blessed to be a blessing, you are glorifying God with your practice. As Luke six thirty eight says, give and it will be given to you.
Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And so when you are a joyful giver, when you are a cheerful giver, that you are consistently out there being generous to others, the Lord will bless you so that you can continue to advance his kingdom and work.
And the seventh trait, maybe the most important, is to be guided by prayer. Romans twelve twelve says, be constant in prayer. I would encourage you to start each day in your practice with prayer, right? Whether it's by yourself and then also with your team.
If you're doing a, I encourage doctors to get there before everyone else so that you can walk around your practice, you can pray over your practice, you can ask the Lord's favor and his hand to be upon you as you work with patients that day.
And then when your patients, I mean, when your team gets there and you do your morning huddle meeting, I would encourage you to finish that meeting with prayer. Ask the Lord to be with you and your team to bless the people who come in that day. This is how you lead your practice through prayer. When you're guided by the Lord through prayer, it makes a huge difference with how your day goes.
And then finishing your day by praising God. right? Calling out the blessings of the day, the people that you were able to help, the success stories that you saw that day. When you're praising God, when you finish your day, again, it fuels your purpose, it reminds you of your mission, and it gets you ready for the next day as well.
And then making sure that you're consistently praying for your team, your patients, and your community, right? When you have You know, when you care about your team enough to find out what's going on with their lives so you can pray for them. Same thing with your patients and your community.
Being constant in prayer is the seventh trait and maybe the most important of all when it comes to Romans XII leadership in upper cervical chiropractic. As Matthew seven, seven through eight says, ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, the one who seeks finds, and the one who knocks, it will be opened.
So being consistent in prayer, not giving up, but praying on a daily basis makes a huge difference with your practice. And so these are the Romans Twelve Leadership Summary, Seven Traits of a Christ-Centered Practice. It's a practice that cultivates humility. It uses spiritual gifts. It leads with love. It overcomes evil with good. It's fueled with kingdom purpose. It's blessed to be a blessing.
And it's guided by prayer. And so these are the things that you want to be thinking about when it comes to your practice and where you can improve. So what do you do now? You know, one of the things that you see consistently within Scripture is the importance of wise counsel to help you. And, you know, there's many different verses that talk about this, including Proverbs twenty thirteen.
Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise. The companion of fools will suffer harm. Or Proverbs twenty eighteen. Plans are established by counsel, by wise guidance, wage war or war.
Proverbs, Proverbs, Proverbs, Proverbs, Proverbs, When you rely on abundant, wise, and godly counsel, it helps you to consistently understand what it takes to grow your practice and continue to glorify God with your practice. And so all wise counsel should be consistent with the word of God.
If you're a follower of Christ, disciple of Christ, then whether it's books or podcasts or other upper cervical specialists you're talking to, other business owners, pastors, wise friends, whatever it may be, the counsel they give you should be consistent with the word of God.
And, you know, what many people have found is helpful for them with their upper cervical practice is getting help from a counselor or advisor or guide for their upper cervical practice. And so if you're thinking about that, if you're looking for someone to guide you with your upper cervical practice, these are some things that I've found that are helpful to look at.
Do they understand the uniqueness of your business? Have they gotten consistent results? Do they have similar values to mine? Do you connect with their personality? Do they have a proven track record? Do they understand the different aspects of my business? These are different things you could be thinking about when it comes to a business guide that you're looking at.
And so when you look at us at UCM Practice Growth Systems, could we be a good guide for you? Do we understand the uniqueness of your business? Yes, we only help upper cervical practices. So if you have an upper cervical practice, then yes, we understand you. And that's what we've been doing for twelve years. Have you gotten consistent results?
